Big Sky Cabin is a beautiful two-story log home at the top of a wooded hill just outside of Gatlinburg, TN. With a heavy-timber frame, green metal roof and natural stone accents, this mountain getaway is everything you could want in your rustic retreat — including not being quite rustic.
Big Sky Cabin is equipped with all the modern conveniences, such as a full kitchen with a dishwasher and other appliances, in-house laundry facilities and even a hot tub, while still preserving its quiet, natural setting and lonely view. The main floor of this luxury log cabin houses the gathering spaces: the spacious kitchen, the dining room table with seating for six, and the cozy sitting room with a plush sofa, an oversize arm chair and ottoman, a fireplace in a stone hearth and a large flat-screen TV. This shared living area is finished entirely in natural wood and polished hardwood floors, giving the space a warm glow when lit by the gas fireplace and custom antler chandelier.
One full side of the living area is comprised of floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the space with natural light. Glass sliding doors lead out to a sunny balcony and the hot tub. On the lower level, a cool, finished basement is equipped with rainy-day entertainments, including a pool table, bar table and stools, an additional sofa, and a second fireplace and TV. The lower level opens out onto a covered porch, furnished with a suspended swing and old-fashioned wooden rockers.
Sleeping arrangements: The two private bedrooms at Big Sky Cabin are separated by a floor to give guests some added privacy, and both can be considered a master suite. The bedrooms are furnished with king-sized beds, flat-screen TVs and an ensuite bath. Sofas in the game room and sitting room fold out into queen-sized beds, for a maximum overnight capacity of eight (human) guests.
Big Sky Cabin is a paying member of the 43-acre Black Bear Falls Log Home Community, which means guests have access to exclusive shared amenities. These include two heated outdoor swimming pools with sundecks — one for adults and one shallow splash pool for children. These pools are seasonal and are open to guests from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There is also a poolside clubhouse with lounge seating and free Wi-Fi.
While this Tennessee mountain cabin may be quiet and secluded, it is by no means cut off from the state’s faster-paced attractions. Big Sky Cabin is located not 10 minutes by car from the heart of downtown Gatlinburg, where visitors will be positively overwhelmed by the variety of restaurants, breweries, distilleries, shopping complexes, museums, live shows and amusement parks. Guests may wish to pay a visit to the Guinness World of Records Museum, where you are sure to see some one-of-a-kind sights, or the Ripley’s Aquarium.
Families will love the many options for mini golf, go-carts and arcade games, and more adventurous groups might want to seek out a zip-line tour or an underground guided cavern exploration. This luxury log cabin is also located just a few miles from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is home to extensive nature trails — accessible by foot, by bike, or from the back of a horse — and unique outdoor experiences such as scenic waterfalls and lookout points and a series of preserved historical cabins.
Couples may want to spend a day poking around the Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Loop, comprised of an eight-mile trail studded with more than a hundred galleries, studios and shops. And, should you somehow run out of entertainment in Gatlinburg, there is also Pigeon Forge nearby, home to the infamous Dollywood, shopping outlets and unbeatable barbecue.
