For the nature lovers, the Smoky Mountains is filled with hiking trails, waterfalls, and wildlife. Take a day trip and hike up to Mt. LeConte through the Boulevard Trail or the Rainbow Falls Trail. Mt. Leconte is almost 6,600 feet high and overlooks stunning sunrises and sunsets. The Ramsey Cascades is the tallest waterfall in the park where most of the water comes from Mt. Guyot. Just off the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is the Grotto Falls where you can stand behind the waterfall. There is a thriving black bear habitat and over 200 species of birds. The Smokies have been nicknamed the “Wildflower National Park” because of the mountain laurel, flame azaleas, and the rhododendron.
