Things To Do

A stay at BearFoot Lodge places guests in the woods, where it is common to see traces of other inhabitants. Regular wildlife sightings include wild turkey, deer, squirrels and raccoons, as well as the rare evidence of a bear. The cabin is seven miles from the historic Cades Cove, which is a part of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This stretch of verdant valley is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to an old schoolhouse, church, mill and several preserved homesteads from early settlers.

The community of Townsend has a laid-back, small-town charm and offers unique experiences such as open-air bluegrass concerts, old-fashioned crafting festivals, and entrances to hiking and horseback riding trails. The Little River runs through Townsend, making for lovely sights alongside the local trails, as well as access to tubing, canoeing and rafting. Follow the water, and you can find yourself in front of the Spruce Flats Falls — great for taking graduation or engagement photos.

Townsend is just 20 minutes away from adventures at the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort, where visitors can engage in downhill skiing and golf, ride the aerial tramway or have an authentic wildlife experience. The cabins are also located an easy day trip from restaurants, outlet shopping and Dollywood in Pigeon Forge.

Reviews

Wonderful place to stay. BearFoot lodge was a wonderful place for our family vacation. We had 3 families in the house and had plenty of space. The paved driveway allowed the children to play and ride bikes while adults relaxed on the balcony or patio. The house had a huge variety of DVDs in each bedroom and living area. We had a washer and dryer both levels of the house. The house was fully stocked with linens, kitchen items, toiletries and cleaning supplies. Our favorite thing about this house was the location. We could walk to the national park and Cades Cover was 10 minutes away. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We had several unexpected events before our trip and Billie was very compassionate in helping me resolve the issues. I highly recommend this house. Reviewed 24 June 2017
Family Time. We had a lovely visit at BearFoot Lodge. Our family of 8 adults and 2 young children very much enjoyed 4 days a BearFoot Lodge. As another reviewer mentioned, it is not fancy, but has many attributes. There are 6 bedrooms, if you rent both up and downstairs. It was clean and ready to go when we arrived. The outdoor spaces are phenomenal- a paved spot with picnic tables & grills that are shady both morning & afternoon; a lovely deck with an enclosed hot tub; and a covered patio that was great the afternoon that it rained. Great place for a family reunion. Reviewed 20 May 2015
Wonderful stay. The house was very clean and ready when we arrived. The house is older and seemed dated in the pictures, but don't let that fool you - it is spacious, well supplied and very comfortable. A perfect Smokies getaway for a large group. The porch is well suited for relaxing in the evening and the back area is great for relaxing and bar-b-cueing. Reviewed 9 July 2014
Everything the owner said it would be! We recently rented this house for my husband and his buddies for a week. The house was exactly what Billie said it would be and had everything they could ask for. Billie was phenomenal to deal with before and after the trip. We rent in TN at least once a year and I have never had such a great experience. This was the first time renting with a personally owned house. We usually go thru the company owned houses. Thank you so much! We plan on renting here again. Reviewed 1 July 2013
Great Stay. Wonderful setting — in the trees just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Unit is really two apartments — up and down — makes it very flexible. Nothing fancy but super practical and perfect for a hiking trip. Reviewed 9 Aug. 2012
